Today we celebrated Lisette’s 4th birthday with a song and rainbow cake. This was a bright and delicious rainbow for sure!
We talked a bit about Kwanzaa, the African American celebration remembering the African roots and community. We made our own kinara, a candle holder with seven candles, by layering dried beans to represent the harvest.
There was a lot of team work at the dry table as kids were filling up pails with flax meal. They worked hard together to get as much of the meal as possible. I have to be careful as I find myself jumping in when, in reality, they are solving problems together without help.
We have been singing songs that are appropriate for each of our celebrations – Jingle Bells for Winter Solstice, We Wish You a Merry Christmas for Christmas, Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel for Hanukkah, and Habari Gani for Kwanzaa.
We are all excited about the Winter Celebration Luncheon and are looking forward to seeing some of you there! My thanks to James and Alicia for all of their help!
