What We Did Today!

Wednesday, April 12

We celebrated Flynn’s 5th birthday with rainbow cake and a song.  The cake has definitely improved from last year’s version.  We also had a special guest today.  David, Flynn’s Dad brought his tool bag and a special project for the kids to help him with.  So, 15 kids and a master wood worker created a bench for the outside area.  Be sure to check it out!

As kids came in today, you may have noticed as I showed them our caterpillars, or rather our chrysalides and caterpillar.  This is an interesting phase of metamorphosis that is hard for me to wrap my head around never mind 4 and 5-year-olds!  The butterflies should begin leaving their chrysalides two weeks after their pupa phase, so any time from April 23 through April 26.  Many kids created their ideas of what each phase of the process might look like using colored pasta shapes.  There was much discussion between them as they worked.

Outside, kids were working with sand and water, mixing and pouring.  Some were trying to release the jewels from the cement stones used as a pathway, but to no avail!  The water table is set up with tooth brushes, tooth paste, and pretend teeth to practice brushing.  Several kids tried it out while telling me they brushed their teeth this morning three times.

We wrote our second page for our community book today.  These will be copied and sent as a thank you to the Pediatric Dentistry for taking the time to talk with us.

My thanks to Valerie and Rebecca for all of their help today!
